Mineola had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They put the hurt on the Tatum Eagles with a sharp 11-1 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won 13 contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Jadelyn Marshall was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Carol Castleberry was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mahayla McMahon, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Mineola is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Tatum, they dropped their record down to 5-20-1 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Mineola will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
